Dandelin - App
Since September 2021, children have been able to learn German together with the fable creature Dandelin and his virtual friends Pauline and Jakob on the language learning app "Dandelin". The development of the learning game was funded by the Erasmus+ funding programme. Six partner organisations from four EU countries developed the content for the game over a period of three years.
With the help of the language learning app - which works without translation and also includes short videos and songs - about 100 important words of the basic German vocabulary are trained. The native language is irrelevant.
In addition to the language learning app, experts in the field of German as a foreign or second language (DaF/DaZ) developed 35 teaching materials for teachers in kindergarten and primary school. These teaching materials serve to expand and deepen the learning content from the app - but they can also be used without it. There is also a catalogue of ideas for playful parent-child activities for the home in eight languages. The project is aimed at children between the ages of five and eight, educators and parents.
Since the project "Dandelin - German for Children" has been well received, there is already an Erasmus+ funded follow-up project to expand the content even further. The extended version will be available in autumn 2025.
Dandelin is the extension of the website deutsch.info, which also emerged from an EU-funded project back in 2013. Initiated by Österreich Institut GmbH, a free online platform was also created here in European cooperation with the aim of cultivating cultural relations abroad through the medium of the German language. Motivated German learners can develop their interest in language, culture and people in 15 languages!
